Delegation Matrix

Review this video for an overview of the four stages of delegation.

For small business owners, delegation can be very difficult.

The issue centers on the need to let go. It’s the “I can do it better” syndrome or the “it’s harder to explain it than to do it” ailment. The reasons are endless.

Around here we compare it to the process they use to catch a chimpanzee.

The way they do it is they put a banana in a plexiglass box that is tied to a tree. They put a hole in the box big enough to get the chimps hand and grab the banana, but the hole is not big enough for the chimp to pull its hand out once it has a hold of the banana. Then they come and catch the chimp. The funny thing is, that although the chimp is clear that it will be captured it will not drop the banana

This is how it is for entrepreneurs, they will not “drop the banana” and delegate tasks.

So they end up stuck doing everything.

Because this problem was so rampant, we created a tool that helps entrepreneurs figure out what are the things they should be delegating. It is a delegation matrix that will allow you to delegate all the tasks you should not be doing in order to free you up.

We’ll then discuss the priority you should follow so you can start and drop your bananas.
Prioritize Your Delegation

Tackle each box in the order described below:

It is important that you keep repeating this process at least every six months.

This tool will allow you to focus on what is important to grow your business.
It will also help your direct reports grow as leaders as they start to use this tool to delegate their tasks.
