    Good morning %FIRSTNAME%,

    First a warning

The cyber-security world is a buzz right now with several issues.

You should be aware that a wave of fishing attacks is coming through Facebook Messenger. There have also been reports of yet more personal data finding its way into the public domain through credit reporting companies.

So, please be vigilant and especially careful with email attachments and links. Talk to us if you have a question about the legitimacy of a message.

Second, actions we are taking to protect your network

You may have heard of some significant vulnerabilities recently discovered in many applications. News about this issue is making its way through the media, and I want to be sure you know that we’re taking action.

We are patching software and handling these issues in the background to ensure you are as protected as possible. (Nothing is 100%, but we are working to keep you up to date).

Below, I explain some of the details:

    What the issue is:

The tech media are calling these Zero-Day exploits. Zero-day means that developers didn’t know about them. An exploit is a way for bad actors to access your systems. Once the hacker knows about the issue, they can use it to enter your otherwise protected systems.

    What software is affected:

Currently, this is a very long list of primarily browser software, including:

    • Google Chrome.
    • Mozilla’s Firefox or Thunderbird.
    • Microsoft Edge.
    • Many Android applications.

The problem is with how this software implements the Webp “reader.” Webp is a compressed image format that is becoming increasingly common.

    Actions we are taking

We have patches from the major software producers and are installing those patches on:

    • X
    • Y
    • Z

    Actions you should take

Some of your hardware/software is outside of our management, so you should also take steps to update those. This includes:

    • X
    • Y
    • Z

We will take care of our part in the background so that you can rest assured that it is taken care of.

    Regards,

    Your Name

    Your Signature.
