Father’s Day Book Recommendations + How to Grow Your Small Business Resources
In case you are looking for gift ideas for Sunday, here are 3 books that I’m loving and think you will too:
The Daily Dad: 366 Meditations on Parenting, Love, and Raising Great Kids by Ryan Holiday, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Daily Stoic, which I read religiously for 5+ years. The Daily Dad offers 366 timeless meditations on parenting in a few manageable paragraphs a day—useful for even the most sleep-deprived new parent. I have my copy next to Max’s high chair to read it while feeding him and benefit from words of wisdom and encouragement.
Built to Move: The Ten Essential Habits to Help You Move Freely and Live Fully by Kelly and Juliet Starrett offers easy mobilization practices to increase range of motion and avoid injury, ways to integrate more movement into your daily parenting life to escape sedentary habits, simple guidelines for improving nutrition and sleep, and basic breathing practices to manage stress and pain. Get the hardcover book because the pictures of the mobilization practices are most useful. It’s been 10 days since I started the book and have already seen tremendous positive results in my mobility, awareness of where there’s room for improvement (balancing on one foot with my eyes closed!), and feeling equipped with mobilization practices (< 30 mins/day – I did them while chopping veggies last night) to increase our longevity and be able to enjoy sitting on the ground criss-cross applesauce with great grandkids.
ADHD 2.0: New Science and Essential Strategies for Thriving with Distraction–from Childhood through Adulthood by Dr. Hallowell and Dr. Ratey offers an arsenal of new strategies and lifestyle hacks for thriving with ADHD for parents and kids. I was listening to it yesterday while taking Max for a breakfast walk and this description resonated with me: “ADHD is like having a race car brain with bicycle brakes. It can be a superpower if we help train the brakes while giving love and encouragement. Fear, shame, and thinking you can’t do something are the real learning disabilities.”
Hope you and your family are doing well!
Happy Father’s Day,
Mike
